CEREC News & Updates
Researchers at CEREC are pioneering the use of fast-setting alternative cements in reinforced concrete. These new materials can go from fluid concrete to a structural strength building material in less than 4 hours. Materials like these can be used to rapidly construct or repair structures.
The latest Discover RED highlights research being done at the Harvell Civil Engineering Research and Education Center, the first of its kind in the state. A large-scale structural testing facility, CEREC allows students and faculty to conduct research and provides teaching laboratories related to material testing. The research done at CEREC enables development of more efficient, safer, and cost-effective construction methods for steel, concrete and timber in Arkansas as well as the nation.
University of Arkansas researchers and collaborators from the University of Texas at Austin are conducting advanced field testing of steel-concrete composite bridges. The ongoing project funded by NCHRP and the National Academies of Science and Engineering aims to improve the understanding of forces transferred through headed shear studs during traffic loading.
Dr. Cameron Murray joins Short Talks on the Hill to discuss his recent research into rapid setting concrete, pre-stressed concrete, and efforts towards bridge evaluation.
